Bar Reef at Dutch Bay Kalpitiya

Bar Reef, the largest coral reef (307 square km) in Sri Lanka that can be reached in 45 Minutes by boat trip from Divyaa Lagoon Beach, serves the ideal sea for keen scuba divers and snorkelers. The beautiful reef, exceedingly rich in bio-diversity, is home to an incredible variety of tropical fish as well as offering sighting of manta rays, reef sharks and the occasional turtle. Dutch Bay Coral Reef – short boat ride from Divyaa Lagoon was named the Top Dive Destination is a newly discovered coral reef in the middle of the ocean, is home to well-defined dive sites. Over 30 years of environmental protection due to coastal protection laws have earned Dutch Bay Coral Reef diving locations a reputation as some of the most beautifully preserved marine life in the world. In 2008, Dutch Bay Coral Reef was designated by the National Tourism Authority as having “arguably the most pristine coral reef environment in Sri Lanka.” A separate official study also found that Dutch Bay Coral Reef is inhabited by more species of fish than any other diving location Abundant underwater life includes more than 200 species of tropical fish and over 120 different types of coral. Due to Dutch Bay Coral Reef’s leeward location outside of the Island belt, and it’s consistently pleasant climate, crystal clear visibility prevails at any depth, allowing guests of Dutch Bay Coral Reef dive a perfect view of the underwater life.

Dutch Bay Coral Reef diving packages are available for both non-certified (resort scuba experience) and certified divers (one boat dive per day and unlimited shore diving).
